Flemington, NJ – December 5, 2022 – DIY Flemington on Stangl Road recently kicked off the Stangl Arts and Cultural District’s new Open Air Gallery with Ribbon Cuttings and Artists’ Receptions.
The event featured a party-like atmosphere as the mayor and other officials, members of the Flemington Community Partnership (FCP) and local artists and business owners cut the ribbon for the new Open Air Gallery at the Groundhog Kiln between Humdoo and 39 Mine on Stangl. The works of local photographer Dave Norton in a show called “Flemington from Dusk to Dawn” were the inaugural gallery display. Norton is also a Flemington Borough Main Street shop owner whose store “The Corner” is a popular destination. The evening’s festivities continued with another ribbon cutting and reception at the new Kev Von Holt wall mural, “We Are All In Bloom Together,” on the building that houses Flemington DIY.
A group show, “Take Me Home Tonight!” featured emerging and established artists. At this one-night-only opening fundraiser event, art lovers snagged works at set prices while supporting artists and the 100% volunteer-run nonprofit, Flemington DIY. The show will remain hanging until Thursday, December 22 with the opportunity to buy at prices set by the artists.
“We are grateful for the Neighborhood Preservation Grant (NPP) that we received with the support of the municipality to see our plans come to life. Thanks to property owner George Ecklemann who partnered with the FCP and the South End District Advisory Team on the development, design, and repurposing of underutilized space to create new artistic places in the newly designated Stangl Arts and Cultural District,” said FCP Executive Director Robin Lapidus.
“Flemington is building a collaborative and supportive arts scene and it’s really great to see it bloom before our eyes,” says Kevin Von Holtermann of Kev Von Holt Gallery, also located on Stangl Road, who painted the “We Are All In Bloom Together” mural on the building that houses Flemington DIY.
